WATCH | Why is SA taking Israel to the International Court of Justice? Here’s what you need to know | News24

The ruling African National Congress (ANC) has long been a firm supporter of the Palestinian cause, often linking it to its own struggle against the white-minority government, which had cooperative relations with Israel.

On Thursday and Friday, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) will hear South Africa’s genocide case against Israel.

In October, Israel launched an air and ground offensive in Gaza that claimed the lives of more than 20 000 people, primarily women and children, and wounded more than 50 000 others.

On 29 December, South Africa initiated proceedings against Israel for alleged crimes against humanity committed in Palestine.
