Rafael Nadal was delighted to see his fellow Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz win his fourth Grand Slam title.
The 21-year-old successfully defended his Wimbledon trophy, defeating Novak Djokovic in the finals for the second straight year.
“¡¡¡¡Enhorabuena Carlos!!!! Qué gran momento, otro más. ¡¡¡¡Fuerte abrazo!!!!,” Nadal posted on Instagram along with a photo of Alcaraz’s winning moment on television.
The caption translates to “Congratulations Carlos!!!! What a great moment, another one. Big Hug!!!!” in English.
Alcaraz remains undefeated in all Grand Slam finals he has reached-this year’s French Open, last year’s Wimbledon, and the 2022 US Open.
Unlike last year’s five-set thriller, Alcaraz won over the Serbian legend more convincingly this time, with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6, on Sunday, July 14, at Centre Court, All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, England.
Nadal and Alcaraz to team up for Spain
Nadal and Alcaraz are set to join forces representing Spain in men’s tennis doubles at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, scheduled to begin later this month.
Nadal previously won a men’s singles gold in 2008 in Beijing and a men’s doubles gold in 2016 in Rio.
Meanwhile, Alcaraz will have a chance to team up with his childhood idol, although he has not played a doubles match in the past two seasons, having only played in nine throughout his pro career.
