Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and his son Bronny James will be the first-ever father-and-son duo to play together in the NBA this upcoming season, but The King made it clear he’s not daddy on the court.

In an upcoming episode of Uninterrupted’s “The Shop,” LeBron answered what every fan is wondering when they start playing together in October: will Bronny call the four-time NBA champion “dad”?

“[He] cannot call me dad in the workplace,” LeBron said in a snippet of the episode, according to ESPN.

“Once we leave out the private facility and the gates close, I could be dad again [and] in the car if we ride together, at home I could be dad.”

Bronny was selected 55th overall by the Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft. His signing was not without controversy, as many questioned whether the decision to draft him was to make LeBron happy–the biggest, most important player on the team.

In response to the criticism, Bronny boasted about the work he had put in to make it into the league. Before the draft, he also clarified that he wanted teams to draft him “if you think I’m good enough, and not because of my dad.”

Bronny James’ short college career

Before declaring for the NBA draft, the 19-year-old spent only one year with the University of Southern California Trojans.

In 25 games, he had six starts and averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes.

LeBron James Jr. also joined the team late in the season because of a health emergency after suffering a cardiac arrest in July 2023.

In high school, where he played for Sierra Canyon in L.A., Bronny was a bigger star. On his senior year, he averaged 14.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.

He was named a McDonald’s All-American in 2023.

James and James will play together for the first time on October 4 in the Lakers’ first preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
