If she had it her way, Kevin Durant’s mom, Wanda, would have stayed in San Francisco and watched her son earn more rings with the Golden State Warriors.
Days after Team USA’s men’s basketball team won its fifth straight gold at the Olympics, TV One’s “Raising Fame” aired an episode featuring Durant’s mom. The show is hosted by Shaquille O’Neal’s mom, Lucille, and Sonya Curry, GSW superstar and Durant’s former teammate Stephen Curry’s mother.
Sonya and Wanda went down memory lane as they reminisced about the years when KD played alongside the two-time MVP.
“I was kind of mad at him when he left at first,” Sonya told Wanda about KD’s decision to leave the Warriors after just three seasons.
“I didn’t really want him to go either,” Wanda admitted.
“Man, we would have had 20 rings by now. We would have had 20 rings by now and it was about [eight] years ago, that’s how cold they were.”

In 2016, Durant decided to join the Warriors — the same team that beat his Oklahoma City Thunder in the playoffs the year before. The move created what some considered was the strongest superteam in NBA history — Durant, Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
In his three seasons in the Bay, KD had two NBA Championships, in 2017 and 2018, and two Finals MVP trophies. The team also set an NBA regular season record of 73-9.
However, in 2019, the 35-year-old announced that he would be signing with the Brooklyn Nets, almost ending the fairytale run of the Warriors.
Many said Golden State would never win another championship after KD left, but in 2022, Curry led the squad to another Larry O’Brien trophy — their fourth in eight years.
Despite keeping the dynasty run alive, fans still wonder how the Western Conference team would have performed if Durant, Curry, Thompson, and Green stuck together. In fact, the quarter was so powerful that they secured spots at the 2017 and 2018 NBA All-Stars.
Lucky for fans, Durant and Curry again played side-by-side for Team USA at the Paris Olympics 2024 where they led the country to another gold finish.
