Conor McGregor Next Fight Could Set New UFC Record as Ticket Prices Surge; What Weight Is He Going to Fight In?

(Photo : Stacy Revere/Getty Images) LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – Conor McGregor of Ireland sits on the mat after injuring his ankle in the first round in his lightweight bout against Dustin Poirier during UFC 264: Poirier v McGregor 3 at T-Mobile Arena on July 10, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Conor McGregor’s UFC hiatus is over. He will return to the Octagon on June 29 for the UFC 303 event.

The Irish fighter last fought in UFC in 2021 when he fought back-to-back to Dustin Poirier.

The excitement for Conor McGregor’s next fight is off the roof as many sports media outfits report that ticket prices for his bout are already peaking.

Fans can start lining up for UFC 303 event tickets online on April 26.

Those who want to be on VIP will have to shell out a significant amount of money to seat the exclusive seats.

“The highest priced option lists at $12,000 per ticket, which includes a guaranteed seat in the 100 level section along with in-venue hospitality, a reserved seat at the ceremonial weigh-in, a post weigh-in reception, and a VIP entrance into the T-Mobile Arena,” MMA Fighting reported.

The VIP package is available only through an inquiry with Endeavor, the company responsible for ticket selling and a primary shareholder in the UFC.

It could exceed the initial $12,000 price and includes all elite experiences, such as access to the weigh-in stage, a poster for the main card, custom fight kits, and signed paraphernalia from fighters.

McGregor has been Dana White’s biggest crowd-getter in the past decade, drawing thousands of viewers in the arena and at home, so this surge is understandable.

More Conor McGregor next fight details

The event will occur at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

McGregor will fight American fighter Michael Chandler, who is in the lightweight division.

Chandler is currently ranked #7 in UFC lightweight rankings.

This is not the first time the two have connected; Chandler and McGregor served as opposing coaches in last year’s UFC Ultimate Fighter reality TV series.

The weight they are going to fight in, however, remains unknown.

Former UFC champ Dustin Cormier believes the two fighters should get it on a heavier weight division, given the attention the event is getting.

“I believe that if they’re going to do a 165-pound division, it should have a name attached to the weight class that is so big that it draws people’s attention,” Cormier said during an appearance at the Good Guy/Bad Guy YouTube channel.

“Conor McGregor being that name. Michael Chandler, on the other hand, will benefit from being in the right place at the right time, where these guys would then fight for the super lightweight championship of the world, because that’s what I believe it is. Because it’s only 10 pounds heavier than 155, so let’s call it the super lightweight division. Move 170 to 175, move 185 to 195, keep 205, [keep] heavyweight.”

While this appears to be a compelling proposal, the biggest hurdle is the preparation by both players and Dana White, who is not keen on accepting a 165-weight fight.

The commission handling MMA fights is also not sold on the idea of a 165-division.

Right now, all fans want to see is the flare and swag of the two fighters.
