The Cleveland Cavaliers are facing uncertainty over the future of star Donovan Mitchell with the team, as he has yet to sign an extension with one guaranteed year remaining on his contract.

However, Cavaliers forward Marcus Morris Sr. predicted that Cleveland fans have nothing to worry about. He believes Mitchell loves the city and values the opportunity to grow as a leader there.

“I think Cleveland’s a really great place for him. It’s a great market. Great fans, always showing out. I would be highly surprised if he left. I would be highly surprised,” the 34-year-old boldly declared during an appearance on FanDuel’s Run It Back.

Currently, Mitchell has the option to sign a four-year contract extension worth $200 million this summer.

The five-time NBA All-Star is set to earn $35.4 million in 2024-25 and can choose to become a free agent in 2025 by declining his player option for the 2025-26 season.

Marcus Morris Sr. gets honest on J.B. Bickerstaff’s firing

Meanwhile, Morris already observed the writing on the wall regarding Cavaliers head coach JB Bickerstaff’s time with the team before he was dismissed when the team was eliminated in the second round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs by the Boston Celtics.

“Honestly, yeah, man, I kind of seen it, sorry to say it. He’s been around here for a while, sometimes time is just a little bit too long. I think he had the locker room and his time just ran out,” the 13-year NBA veteran admitted.

Morris Sr. signed with the Cavs after the 2024 trade deadline last February. His previous team, the Philadelphia 76ers, had traded him to the San Antonio Spurs, who subsequently waived him.
