NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday demanded Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to speak on Swati Maliwal’s assault case and apologise. Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman while addressing the press conference condemned Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s lack of response in AAP MP Swati Maliwal’s assault case, labeling it ‘unbelievable and unacceptable.’
“Since May 13, not a single word has been uttered by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal over the attack on his party MP Swati Maliwal. It is totally unbelievable and unacceptable… Our entire party and personally are deeply saddened and concerned about the whole incident,” Sitharaman said.
Sitharaman further chastised Kejriwal for the presence of the accused, Bibhav Kumar, alongside the Delhi CM during his visit to Lucknow. “Instead of taking action against the accused as had been assured by their party MP Sanjay Singh, Kejriwal has shown his true color of insensitivity, which also makes each woman in Delhi feel unsafe,” she said.
Highlighting a pattern of alleged misconduct within Kejriwal’s party, Sitharaman pointed out, “Kejriwal has been habitual of using his staff and sometimes bouncers to attack his own party colleagues. Today Somnath Bharti, who was accused of torturing his pregnant wife, is contesting Lok Sabha polls with the support of Sonia Gandhi’s Congress.”
“The women in Delhi are asking – can this CM even provide security to the women in the city? Arvind Kejriwal is responsible for this incident… ,” Sitharaman claimed.
The criticism comes amidst a tense political atmosphere in the capital, with Kejriwal’s leadership under scrutiny following the attack on Maliwal. The absence of a response from the chief minister has fueled speculations and raised concerns regarding the safety and security of women in Delhi.
