NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday conducted searches at 13 locations in Punjab‘s Ropar district and seized Rs 3.5 crore in connection with an illegal mining case.
The agency’s Jalandhar-based teams are currently carrying out the raids, which are still ongoing, as per officials familiar with the development.
It has come to light that illegal mining activities were taking place on land that had been previously seized by the ED in relation to the notorious Bhola drug case.The case is currently at a critical stage of trial before the Special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court.
The investigation has uncovered the involvement of several individuals and entities in the illegal mining operations, including Nasibchand, a well-known mining mafia figure, and Shree Ram Stone Crushers.
Officials reported that the ED has recovered a total of Rs 3 crore during the searches so far.
