The Supreme Court, while hearing the podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia case on Monday, said that some regulatory measures may be required in the airing or telecast of programmes.

“With regard to telecast or airing of programmes which are not acceptable in terms of known moral standards of our society, some regulatory measures may be required,” said the court in its order.

The court further relaxed conditions which barred Allahbadia from airing his online shows after he submitted an undertaking assuring that his shows would maintain standards of decency and morality, after lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud argued that it is the petitioner’s livelihood.

“We have requested SG to suggest some measures which are effective to ensure the parameters of fundamental rights as delineated in Article 19. Any draft regulatory measure in this regard can then be put in public domain to invite suggestions from stakeholders,” the court said.
