The Chicago White Sox have made a late move in free agency, signing a reliable outfielder to a minor league deal.

The team has agreed with Tommy Pham, who previously played for the recent World Series runners-up Arizona Diamondbacks.

The 36-year-old is anticipated to receive a $3 million base salary while playing in the majors and potentially earn an additional $1.5 million in performance bonuses.

The Vegas native will report to the White Sox’ Triple-A affiliate, Charlotte Knights, by Tuesday, April 16.

If Pham is not included on the major league roster by April 25, he can request his unconditional release. Additionally, in the event of a trade, he would receive an extra $500,000 bonus.

Spending the early part of the 2023 season with the New York Mets, Pham was traded to the Diamondbacks in August 2023 in exchange for 17-year-old prospect Jeremy Rodriguez.

Pham made significant contributions to the Diamondbacks during the postseason, particularly excelling in the championship round, where he batted .421 with eight hits, a home run, two RBIs, and three runs scored.

Despite his efforts, the Arizona Diamondbacks ultimately lost the series against the Texas Rangers in five games.

The struggling White Sox currently have a 2-14 record, the worst in the American League Central division and the entire MLB, following their recent loss to the Kansas City Royals on Monday, April 15.
