While majority of the newspapers stuck with a straightforward headline of “Biden quits race”, some decided to go with “Biden bows out” or even “bowed to the inevitable.”
The Times of India went with the wordplay on the US president’s name flashing the headline — “Bye, Done: Biden Drops Out Of Race, Endorses Kamala”
The Washington Post went with “Biden exits race” followed by an article titled — “After miscues and revivals, history opens a door” for Kamala Harris.
The Guardian featured “Biden’s exit from the race” and the newspaper described “remarkable choice” as plunging “the US into turmoil just months before the election.” It noted that the decision followed “weeks of pressure from Democratic leaders, organizers, and donors.”
The Financial Times flashed “Biden pulls out of White House race and endorses Harris as his successor” along with another article saying the decision has put Kamala Harris in an “unchartered territory.”
With a massive disappointed picture of the US president, Daily Express said, “Biden quits”, adding that he caved “in to pressure after disastrous debate.”
Calling it a “sad end”, Metro went with “Biden bows out”.
In an article titled — “Liberal media goes into meltdown mode after Biden drops out: Van Jones cries on air, Jen Psaki struggles for words” — New York post reported how political analyst Van Jones broke down on air while discussing Biden dropping out of the race.
“He’s fighting and he’s fighting and everybody’s so frustrated. And then you finally get the keys back. And then you just cry,” Jones said.
