Madhya Pradesh village levies Rs 10/month swachh cess on households | India News – Times of India


BHOPAL: In a first, a village panchayat in Satna district has imposed a mandatory cess of Rs 10 per month per household as ‘sanitation cess’.
Bada Itma panchayat headed by a female sarpanch, Geeta Pandey, passed this resolution along with other reforms including door to door garbage collection, installation of dustbins all across the village, waste water management and planting 1,000 trees in the next couple of months.
The panchayat is situated in Ramnagar janpad of Satna district. Panchayat with a population of around 7,000 people it has 3,100 voters.
Sarpanch Geeta Pandey,75, mooted the resolution which was passed by the gram sabha by consensus of sarpanch, deputy sarpanch and all panchs on October 27.
“A garbage collection vehicle has been purchased and it will be operational from November 1 onwards and from the month of November a mandatory cess will also be applicable to all households in the panchayat,” Subhash Pandey, son of sarpanch Geeta Pandey told TOI.
“Waste management has been a major issue in our panchayat and my mother is very focused on sanitation. As it is acommon problem faced by the residents, everyone readily agreed to the proposal of imposing cess,”Pande
