Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry remains stunned by the departure of his longtime backcourt partner Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks.

Despite his firm and longtime desire to spend his entire career with the Warriors, the four-time NBA champion hinted at a nuanced change in perspective during a recent interview.

“I mean, I can clearly say I want to be a Warrior for life. It’s always been my goal, and I’m saying that sitting in this chair right now, but like you said, life, and especially life in the NBA, it is a wild environment, and things change quickly,” the 2022 NBA Finals MVP admitted in an interview with Yahoo Sports reporter Vincent Goodwill.

The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player is currently in Las Vegas for Team USA’s training camp for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

This is the first time Curry has hinted at the possibility of wearing a jersey other than the Warriors’ blue and gold, as he has previously adamantly stated his intention to remain in Golden State for his entire career.

Losing Klay Thompson has not sunk in for Stephen Curry

Curry is still in disbelief over Thompson’s departure, given their thirteen-year tenure as teammates and highly successful partnership.

“I kind of have this idea that October, he’ll still [show up] like, ‘Hey guys, what’s up?’ But I know it’s not happening,” the NBA’s all-time three-point leader stated.

Thompson signed a three-year contract worth $50 million with the Dallas Mavericks in free agency.
